Winged Warriors

Results against CoB Power Rangers

The last time the Winged Warriors and the Clan of Bobs met on the battlefield was on March 1, 2006.  The Winged Warriors won the clanmatch with 7 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie.  This time the Clan of Bobs had divided up into divisions within the clan, and we would have the chance to take on the Power Rangers division on this night.

  • The Clanmatch started at 10:30pm central time.
  • The total match duration including lobby time was 2hr 5min.
  • There were a total of five games played (3 CTF, 1 Slayer, 1 Oddball).
  • 10 players participated: 5 players represented the Winged Warriors, 5 represented the COB Power Rangers.

Game I: Reinforcement CTF on Sanctuary - Cycling?

The Power Rangers had the first choice and decided to play their own custom CTF gametype, called “Reinforcement CTF”.  This game is different from the run of the mill Multi-flag, because the respawn time modifier is now cycling every thirty seconds.  This means that at every 30 second mark any one that died prior to the last respawn time would spawn all at once.  For example if one of your team members dies ten seconds into the game, he would have to wait another twenty seconds to spawn again.  So the idea was to try and not die at all, but if it should happen it is best to die right before the next spawn.

The game started with the Power Rangers taking control of the game, because we were still unsure of the settings.  However, we picked it up quickly and started to fight back.  When five minutes were left in the game the Power Rangers had a 1-0 lead on us.  We knew that now was the time to make a stand.  Luckily for us they made a fatal mistake, and rushed our flag, but failed and two Power Rangers had to sit and watch their remaining teammates for twenty seconds.  With a 5 on 3 advantage, we picked off the three remaining members and bart 008 made the first capture.  We were now in control and set up for the next capture.  With a few close calls, Simmons 2pt0 was able to score the second flag, giving us a 2-1 lead.  There was only two minutes left and we decided to attack and end the game rather than defend for the remainder of the round.  We charged and slaughtered the Power Ranger rush and MASbetty came away with the final capture.

Game II: MLG CTF on Beaver Creek - Felt like Eternity

We had the choice for the second game, and chose MLG CTF on Beaver Creek because it was a game we had practiced many times before.  Also our confidence increased when we learned the Power Rangers hate Beaver Creek, especially with the addition of MLG settings.

The game started and we immediately rushed for control of the map.  However, the rush from both squads ended in a stalemate.  The Rangers were able to overcome and take an early 1-0 lead.  We settled in and for the next 20 minutes the two squads battled it out.  Eventually both teams traded captures and the score was now 2-1 in favor of the Power Rangers.  We rushed with under five minutes left in the game, and were able to run the flag back to our base, but unfortunately Sigafoos was waiting with a shotgun in hand, and killed the flag carrier inches away from the capture point.  With the flag returned the time limit reached zero and the Power Rangers came out on top.

At the end of the game it was found that the game should have ended at 15min, because the Power Rangers had a 1-0 lead.  However, neither team knew and the game went the FULL 30min.

Game III: BRNS Ball on Midship - Utter Chaos

This was the Power Rangers second choice, and they decided to play their version of oddball, which is “BRNS Ball”.  BRNS stands for Battle Rifle No Shields, so in essence it is a SWAT oddball game.

The game started and we immediately rushed for control of the map to secure the ball.  However, utter chaos ensued and the game turned into an all out war for control of the ball.  We were able to pull a 1min. lead in the game, but the Rangers quickly attacked and gained control of the ball.  They were able to set up a defense that covered their ball carrier from almost every angle.  With control of the ball the Rangers closed the gap.  Afraid of a comeback we swarmed and slaughtered the Power Rangers to regain control.  For the remainder of the game the Rangers chased the ball and were shut down at every corner.  We won with a lead of 43 seconds.

Game IV: 1 Flag CTF on Terminal - Cause of Death: Lagging Out

It was now time for our second choice.  We decided to play a gametype that has been held almost a constant in every clanmatch.

The game started and we immediately rushed the opposing wraith, but were unsuccessful.  After many attacks the flag was brought under the train tracks.  However, in the last few seconds MASbetty charged with a sword.  To his and our dismay, he lagged through the lone Power Ranger and sudden death wound down to zero.

The second round began and we immediately prepared for the expected warthog rush, which came with a vengeance.  However, we were able to put down the Power Ranger rush with the combined effort of bart 008 in the wraith, and MASbetty on turret.  Near the end of the round the Rangers were able to sneak the flag out of the base and through the top garage, and subsequently make the capture.

The third round began, but this time we were able to take down the wraith.  With the wraith destroyed we attacked with force and with some luck we were able to inch the flag home for the score.

The fourth round began and we knew that we had to hold the Rangers to tie the game, and seal a victory in the clanmatch.  The round began and we again set up for the warthog rush.  Like the first round the warthog was put down quickly.  Then to the surprise of everyone, the party leader Pastemater lagged out.  The new party leader Brathnok ended the game not knowing that force even teams was on.  The game was then restarted and the last round was played out with the Power Rangers having one more member, but force even teams was on and the game began as a 4v4.  The Rangers took the warthog the exact same way, and to their dismay a wraith blast was literally waiting for them as they turned the corner.  Even after the unsuccessful rush, the Power Rangers were able to get the flag out and make the capture.

The win by the Power Rangers tied the series at 2 and the fifth game would soon be underway.

Game V: MLG Team Slayer on Lockout - So Close but yet so far

Before the game both teams knew that they had to win in order to claim a victory in the clanmatch.  The fifth game would be a split choice.  As usual we chose “WW Team Slayer 100” and the Power Rangers chose lockout.

The game started and we spawned at the Battle Rifle tower and quickly set up to defend against the Ranger Rush.  The Rangers rushed and forcefully took control of the Battle Rifle tower.  We regrouped and held the sniper tower and traded kills, however the Rangers maintained their lead for the remainder of the game.  This led to them winning the game by a margin of 14 kills.  The win sealed the victory for the Power Rangers in the clanmatch.
