Winged Warriors vs. Calm Before the Storm.

    Sometimes “the beginning of the end” starts at the beginning. This clan match was just that for the late rallying CBTS. As the Warriors gathered the largest clan match team fielded since their notorious PMS skirmishes, the mood was set with a jinxing quote from G3 Commander, of the CBTS squad. As the first round prepared to launch he joked, “Yeah, TDub is probably going to lag out at some point, so just expect it to happen.” And surely enough TDub proceeded to lag out…a lot.

Game I - Territories on Sandtrap

 

The first game in this 3 up 3 down series began with a swift rush to the 1st and 2nd territories. As each Warrior was sporting a hot chain gun, four-wheeled battering-ram, or flesh-skewering Chopper it was quick work of the initial rushes by CBTS. We took a steady hold as initial rushes turned into re-supplied strongholds. If this was not bad enough for our inaugural Halo 3 challengers, for the first time, TDub lagged out. Unsure of how to proceed a consensus was voted on by the Warriors to keep playing as, “G3 said expect it to happen’ so I guess that means it is ok to keep playing.’” Slightly confused but assuming it would be a replay, if in error the Warriors went on to thoroughly dominate the round. After the match, and a little discussion, CBTS Zeak1 said that it was fine, no rematch was necessary, and the win goes to the Warriors.

Game II - Multi-Flag on Narrows

    With three beeps we dropped into Narrows, metal to stone, and seven AR’s clacked back into full auto as the rush for rocket control jumped from zero to sixty. In that haze of whose dead and who doesn’t have rockets we emerge toe to toe with a team already snapping up our flag. We struggle, we tug, but the flurry that started out of our control ends out of our control and we were down 0-1. The tug of war that followed can only be described as chaotic. One team would score and the next, assisted by the falling defenders of the cap, would rush in and out with the recently scoring teams’ flag. Back and forth this went until it was tied 2-2. Normally a cause for concern, but quick re-strategizing is what the Warriors do best, and it was slow motion magic. Bullets thundered and bodies dropped, until one man grabbed CBTS’s flag a bubble shield and walked into match winning history. Glimmering Hayabusa armor pounds towards our base, katana tied down, flag in hand, as two defenders rain fire onto the dwindling shields of Simmons 2pt0. I rush out into our lower narrows to hopefully save him as Stoney (Simmons 2pt0) utters a noise only he can utter: part chuckle, part giggle, part “you can’t kick my ass, because I already kicked yours” and I start to laugh. A shimmering bubble shield pops and whines into existence from within Stoney’s hands and I throw two grenades at the edge. What was once hunting season for CBTS had become a wall of death afforded by the generous members of the Winged Warriors. Flag caped, Warriors win.

Game III - Team Slayer on Highground

   The third round was sponsored by the letter C, for comeback. Or maybe I just mean close. The CBTS squad was still in the fight and the Warriors notably lost a little bit of luster. CBTS Zeak arrived into our memory as a sniper to worry about as he continued to send round after round to live in our skulls. We struggled to communicate where the sniper was and follow through in a few key moments but fundamentals kicked in and saved us. We slowed down and took fewer deaths per kill and pulled the last round out 100-98. Game, set, match.

Summary

 We would like to thank Calm Before the Storm for being our first Halo 3 opponents. They showed us that they are excellent slayers and worthy adversaries. We look forward to a rematch in the future. Stay tuned for the results.
